Huge congratulations to 16 year-old Vocal Skills student Hatty Keane who has just won the Under 18 category of Open Mic UK 2010. Not only that, she was also adjudged runner up for the entire competition. Open Mic Uk is the biggest singing competition for unsigned musicians in the country. Over 9,000 acts nationwide entered the competition, and the Grand Final saw Hatty perform in front of thousands at the O2 arena.

Chris Grayston, judge on the night and head of A&R at Future Music said: "The standard this year was fantastic, particularly among the Under 18 entrants. I am confident we have chosen the right runner up and I am looking forward to next year's competition and working with Hatty - she has fantastic potential. She is ready to go out now as a complete artist. Find the right original track and this could be dynamite."

Hatty has now been signed up by BGM, one of the fastest growing music companies in the UK. BGM specialises in the development, management, publishing and release of unique artists and Hatty is now working with top UK producers and development teams on her first single. The plan is to launch her onto the musical landscape with a bang.

Michael King CEO of BGM said: "We will be working alongside Future Music over the coming months to help Hatty develop her unique sound and style, with a view to releasing her first track towards the autumn."

Hatty and Vocal Skills

Andy worked with Hatty on Russian Roulette, refining her performance for each round. Andy says: "Hatty was a real pleasure to work with - every session built on the previous one and I could see and hear her grow in confidence. Everything I suggested, she took on board and absorbed into her performance. She's a unique talent and deserves all the success that's coming her way."

In each of her sessions with Andy, Hatty worked on specific Estill 'Figures' - exercises designed to give the singer control of their voice and allow complete artistic freedom, something Hatty has in abundance. For example, Andy worked with Hatty on initiating the tone, proper breath control, supporting the sound, adding volume and weight and changing tonal balance. These are fundamental aspects of singing, but with Estill Voice Training™, they become clear and precise, allowing the singer to focus on their performance, not their technique.

If you'd like to learn how Estill Voice Training™ can help you in your Pop or R&B career, book a lesson with Andy (see below) and take your singing to the next level.
